Obsolescence

With passing time the likelihood of parts being not produced, and therefore not purchasable, anymore in the same shape, form or materials is increasing. Many products are going through development cycles and also through constant improvements.

The effect of obsolescence can be countered by a properly chosen spare part strategy. But even a good strategy has it's limits, especially for parts and materials that are subject to ageing.

For some items, the obsolescence is managed by compliance statements of the manufacturers. Although also here for specific applications the compliance of industrial testing needs to be checked and confirmed before being sure the new product is in fact a simple plug and play replacement.

There are certain protocols that can be established to notice products and parts at risk for obsolescence in an early stage. At least for strategic parts these protocols should be evaluated and applied.

If you are struggling or your spare parts are generally are concerned by the risk of obsolescence, reach out to us, and we can help you to set up required protocols to manage the risk of obsolete parts and components.
